Central Buganda (Uganda)
Family Life Programme makes an impact

Central Buganda is one of four dioceses in Uganda where the Mothers' Union Family Life Programme has been launched. This Programme draws together existing Mothers' Union work as well as developing new areas and includes topics such as relationships, violence, health, hygiene, peacebuilding. It is a programme for the whole community - men, women and youth - not for Mothers' Union members alone.

The Programme uses the Participatory Learning and Action method of working in small local peer groups. The confidence gained in small discussion groups enables participants to become involved in local problem-solving and decision-making in their communities. This is because the Programme starts where people are and develops the skills they need.

Trained facilitators run the local groups, where participants are encouraged to discuss their problems, prioritise and look for solutions. Thus, the Programme will help to produce strong local communities (known as Civil Society) able to undertake action and monitor inputs from local and national governments.
